In a previous article we discussed how our skin ages as we get older, and which types of Korean skincare products can help to combat common signs of ageing such as wrinkles, sagging skin and dull skin.
Today, we’re taking a closer look at the ingredients of the best Korean skincare with anti ageing properties to discover how they can keep our skin supple, smooth and bright.
Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein in our bodies which is important for skin structure and keeps it looking beautiful and firm – however, our collagen production rate tends to drop as we age, which can leave skin looking tired.
Fortunately we are able to apply collagen topically in the form of products such as the Extreme Moisture Mask, which can help to improve skin elasticity and appearance.
The reference to stem cells may conjure images of laboratories, but botanical stem cells are commonly used in anti ageing skin care due to their incredibly high antioxidant content. Our Stem Cell Radiance Cream, for example, contains wild ginseng stem cells and peptides which together can help to transform dull skin.
Our bodies produce hyaluronic acid which keeps our skin hydrated and assists in skin repair, however we also produce less of this substance as we get older. Products such as our All-In-One Wrinkle Care Mask contain hyaluronic acid to improve moisture absorption, encourage collagen production and to keep skin hydrated, which in turn can minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
You may notice ceramides as a popular ingredient of Korean skincare in Australia. That’s because ceramides help to lock moisture into the epidermis and to protect skin from external irritants such as pollution. Products such as our All-In-One Cream can have dry or dull skin looking illuminous and dewy once skin barrier function improves.
Niacinamide is a type of vitamin B3 which, when included in anti ageing skin care, can provide a skin brightening effect and even out skin tone. It can improve the appearance of blemishes such as dark age spots and large pores, and also help to balance sebum production. Products containing niacinamide such as the Dew Essence are the perfect antidote to dull or uneven skin.
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient for the human body as it assists in skin repair and collagen production. It can also be invaluable in protecting the skin from UV damage from the sun (although it’s important to note that it can’t replace the need for a daily broad spectrum sunscreen!). Vitamin C is included in products such as the Intensive Vitamin C Ampoule to fade dark age spots, neutralise free radicals and to protect the epidermis from damage.
Pro tip: Be sure to store products containing Vitamin C away from sunlight and heat for best effects, as it can become less potent with excess exposure to light or air.
